New Toy For Passion Making

posted in Information |

My first digital camera Nikon 4100 coolpix is half way to the graveyard now. Thanks to fireworks show last Sunday, it underwent an hour of heavy pour. I hope it will come back in perfect condition without spending much to repair. I still want to keep it for nostalgia sake.

Nevertheless, my new toy comes along the way upon a visit to my photographer friend.

LX2 and LX1 It was a spontaneous shot for that moment.

I am not getting DSLR just yet even though I was introduced to the older Nikon model, D50 & D70 and latter entry level D40. Argh, and I was told about Canon Powershot S3 IS which is neck to neck comparing with some other semi pro compact camera in the similar price range. Anyway, I am not going into DSLR just yet after taking some professional advice.
See comparison between D40, S3 & LX2.

Venturing into DSLR is a big step and the investment is huge
    :)
I’ve not been running through the latest reviews especially on the D40
However I do believe that it depends on what you would like to use it for, then you can decide which to get, whether a compact, prosumer or a DSLR.

A DSLR, the Canon does kick ass! Canons are still, to me, the best camera brand in the market. \:d/

zeroimpact: Indeed. But I don’t mind investing it as a hobby. Try D40 and let me know, it’s the lightest & easiest DSLR in the market. I heard that’s only RM600 difference from LX2. I’m heading into prosumer direction now, let me learn how to control ISO & depth of field before going in DSLR. I’m happy with it, there is SP & AP manual function in this camera. ;) The only con that I’m not happy with is the noise level, it wasn’t improved much from her earlier version.

Gallivanter: Both Canon & Nikon has their own strength, depending on what you need & want, where you shoot your pictures most of the time, indoor/ outdoor? As for most commercial photographer and journalist, they will go for Canon. I’m not against it but I am and always will be a Nikon fan.

Save up and forget the D40 etc. D40 etc are only entry level DSLR. Go whole hog and get a D80 or something. [That’s my recommendation anyway].

Jemima: Yeah, been venturing on video…wanna try out photography.

Dabido: You’re right! I definitely won’t go for D40 now since i got my LX2. Maybe Nikon will release D100 by the time I’m ready for DSLR.
